Extraction of a wisdom tooth

If your wisdom teeth began erupting laterally or are resting on other teeth and pushing against the adjacent ones, we recommend a consultation with an oral surgeon, who will examine the wisdom teeth and determine which procedure is needed.
Extraction of a wisdom tooth is a surgical procedure that removes the tooth that is leaning on another tooth as it grows, because it lacks space or because it is damaged by decay.
Why do I need to have my wisdom teeth removed?
Often there is not enough room in the jaw for the wisdom teeth to grow, so they push against other teeth, move sideways or do not fully erupt. They are difficult to clean and are vulnerable to early decay and soft tissue inflammation.
Why choose Madentis for wisdom teeth extraction?
The professional, attentive oral surgeon at our clinic will first explain in detail what is going to be done and will make sure that you feel as calm and comfortable as possible, and that the procedure goes smoothly and quickly.
When is the best time to remove wisdom teeth?
If you are experiencing pain, swelling or inflammation in the area of the wisdom tooth, and especially if this tends to recur, you should consult your doctor.
If extraction of a wisdom tooth is necessary, we recommend not delaying it: if the wisdom tooth is not removed in time, it can cause damage to the adjacent teeth or cause the formation of an abscess, which can spread to adjacent areas, sometimes causing serious and even life-threatening conditions.

Extraction of a wisdom tooth
Research has shown that removing a wisdom tooth can improve the health of the adjacent teeth by up to 85%, while not removing a wisdom tooth can lead to decay of the distal surface of the second molar in about 25% of the patients, eventually necessitating to the removal of not only the wisdom tooth, but also the second molar tooth.
Removal of the wisdom teeth is not recommended before the age of 17, as the growth zones of the jaws may be damaged.
It has been established that the optimal age for this procedure is between 18 and 24 years of age, when the bone is still softer, the lower wisdom teeth have receded further from the mandibular canal and the upper teeth have descended, the healing is easier.

Cases of wisdom tooth extraction:
1. The tooth is irreparably damaged by caries, irregularly grown, with soft plaque accumulations around it, making oral hygiene difficult.
Inflammation of the surrounding tissues then occurs, and abscesses and suppurations may form and spread to the interfascial spaces in the soft tissues and the neck. This can lead to serious, even life-threatening complications.
2. A wisdom tooth may also be removed when:
– the tooth is surrounded by germinating or other maxillary cysts or tumours,
– it is blocking the eruption of a second molar,
– it rests on an adjacent tooth and may damage it,
– it passes through the fracture lines of the jaw,
– for orthodontic treatment, where the aim is to create more space in the dental arches.
